iPhone Duo Is Official: Price, Release Date, Specs, and Everything You Need to Know About Apple's First Foldable

• First foldable iPhone. Book style, passport sized when closed, revealed by Apple CEO John Ternus on September 9.
• Two screens, one aspect ratio. A 7.6-inch inner OLED and a 5.4-inch outer OLED, both 120Hz and Always-On.

The iPhone Duo is the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold, with no cheaper entry tier. Each storage jump costs more than the last, so most buyers should stop at 256GB or 512GB. Apple offers financing at $83.29 per month for 24 months on the base model.

Apple is staggering the Duo about five weeks behind the iPhone 18 Pro. A folding display and a hinge with more than 100 parts are hard to build at iPhone volume, so expect tight supply through the holidays.

Closed, the Duo is 84.1 x 117.8 x 11.3 mm, narrower than an 18 Pro Max but thicker. Open, it is the thinnest iPhone ever at 5.2 mm. The frame is mirror-polished Grade 5 titanium, a step up from the aluminum 18 Pro, in Night Sky or Star White. Buttons: volume, a side button with Touch ID, and Camera Control.

The hinge

• More than 100 components with an integrated magnet array that Apple says keeps the halves flush when closed.
• 3D-printed hinge cover in 100 percent recycled titanium, a first for a structural iPhone part.
• Angle aware. Content reflows as it folds, which enables StandBy on a half-open Duo.
• No published fold rating. Apple gave no durability figure, so treat every durability claim as unverified.

Both panels share the same aspect ratio, so an app on the outer screen simply grows to fill the inner one, and iOS 27 reflows content as you fold. Both are Super Retina XDR with ProMotion 120Hz, Always-On, and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

The Duo has no Face ID. Touch ID lives in the side button, the same approach Apple uses on iPad Air and iPad mini. The TrueDepth module is bulky, and a foldable would need it facing both screens inside a half that is only 5.2 mm thick.

• Works open or closed. A fingerprint on the side button behaves the same in either orientation.
• Apple Pay still works with a press of the side button.
• Apple Watch unlock is supported, so an unlocked Watch on your wrist opens the phone automatically.
• You lose glance unlock and the attention-aware features Face ID enables.

The Duo carries two rear cameras plus a 12MP Center Stage camera on the outer screen and an under-display FaceTime camera inside. Photos default to 24MP. Apple's spec page lists 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 60 fps, while the newsroom post says 4K120. We will confirm the ceiling with a unit.

One battery sits in each half, which is how Apple keeps the Duo thin. On paper the folding design costs nothing in battery life: the inner-screen video rating sits near the 18 Pro, and the outer-screen figure matches the 18 Pro Max.

• Wired: 50 percent in about 20 minutes with a 60W adapter, five minutes behind the 18 Pro.
• MagSafe and Qi2: both up to 25W, 50 percent in about 30 minutes with a 35W or stronger adapter.
• USB-C port: USB 3 data speeds and DisplayPort output for external monitors.
• No charger in the box. Only a USB-C cable. A 20W adapter from an older iPhone will not hit these figures.

The Duo ships with iOS 27 and gets a layer of features built for the folding form factor. Content reflows between the two screens as you fold and unfold without relaunching apps.

• Split View runs two apps side by side on the inner display, a first for iPhone.
• Vertical Dynamic Island on the inner screen keeps it out of the middle of the panel.
• StandBy on both displays, so a half-open Duo on a nightstand becomes a clock or photo frame.
• Lock Screen controls move to the side and the Dock shifts to suit the wider layout.
• Apple Pencil (USB-C) works on both screens, but support arrives later this year via update.
